- Information
"Honnou" is Shiina Ringo's fourth single. This was released simultaneously as the re-release of Shiina's debut single, "Koufukuron". The single rose to #2 in Oricon charts and charted for #24 weeks. This single sold 997,050 units in Japan. The B-sides "Aozora" and "Rinne Headlight" were used as Suntory Cocktail Bar CM songs. "Rinne Highlight" is a cover of Susanna Hoffs' song "No Kind of Love". To date, this is Shiina's highest-selling single.
Shiina dressing as a nurse in the music video and on the single cover was much talked about; she also dressed in this manner in television performances.
"Gips" was originally meant to be released in place of "Honnou", however due to sickness Shiina was not able to record "Gips" in time for the single's release (thus the already recorded "Honnou" was chosen to be released instead).

Music Video
The PV for "Honnou" was directed by Kimura Yutaka. It features Shiina Ringo cosplaying as a nurse in a white room. For most of the music video, she performs the song between blood drips, while behind her is the bassist for one of Shiina's Zecchoushuu bands Hatsuiku Status, Torii Yasunobu (鳥井泰伸), cosplaying as a doctor. In many scenes, she is shown breaking a sheet of glass (sometimes punching it, while others kicking it with her high heels).
The music video won in the 1999 Space Shower awards for "Best Female Video".
